Both ends of Tower Bridge land in controlled territory: Tower Hamlets to the north, Southwark to the south, and no free kerb on either bank. The Shad Thames side is cobbles and former wharves with barely room to pass, so genuine parking means a space off the road, arranged before you cross.

Visitors come for the bridge itself, the Tower of London across the road and the restaurants at Butler's Wharf; St Katharine Docks adds boat owners and office tenants on the north bank. Most are day trippers by car who would rather know where they are leaving it before they set off.
