Anfield's terraces were built before anybody owned a car, so most houses have no driveway and the ones that do guard them. Matchday parking zones cover the streets around the ground and are enforced hard on the day, which leaves a driver either a long walk in or a resident's goodwill.

Fifty-odd thousand people arrive here on a matchday and a good number drive. Between fixtures it is an ordinary residential district close to the city centre and to Liverpool's hospitals, which is why a space here gets used all week and not just on a Saturday.
